How to deal with new patient enquiries

As is the case with a lot of consultants I speak to, they all want more self-pay patients through their private clinics.

As a consultant, if you had more enquiries from potential new patients, could you cope with the extra interest? How would you cope with the extra interest?

I was asked to set up a new website for an Ophthalmologist in view to increasing the number of new self-pay patients.

We set up a new website, fresh look, up and running and live. My job done.

I decided to check out how many enquiries the website had generated after a couple of weeks running. There were a number of enquiries for all sorts of eye related conditions asking for contact.

I spoke to the consultant, he was completely unaware of these enquiries. Further investigation, no one from their team had contacted any of the patients. It goes without saying, you have to be very swift in contacting these enquiries.

When wanting to increase patient numbers, then not only look at the front end but also the back end of the process. Make sure you have robust processes in place to follow up these enquiries quickly. Make sure your team follow those processes that have been set up to book in the new patients to your practice. This advice seems obvious and basic, but it is often overlooked and not given the appropriate attention.
